Instructions/Advice

How it Works:  the Zoom software sets up a "waiting room"; your name or phone number appears in a viewing panel managed by the person acting as the Zoom host, and that person admits you.  You can leave the meeting before it is over, if you wish.

Your microphone will be muted when entering the meeting. When you have a speaking role, you or the host can "Unmute" the microphone.  When your microphone is open, please keep background noise like a TV or conversation to someone in the room to a minimum, otherwise everyone in the meeting can hear the extra noise and to Zoom, you will be treated as the speaker, which distracts from the business of the meeting. Please return to "Mute" when your speaking role is over.

About how Zoom works for options 1 & 2:  there is a "Speaker View" to only see the person who is speaking and also a "Gallery View" to see multiple participants including the speaker. In Gallery View, when someone speaks, that person will be highlighted by a "frame/box".  By looking at the various control settings in the upper right screen, you can find and choose the Gallery View.

For options 1 & 2, there is also a "Chat Function" that allows any participant to send a text message to everyone or someone else who is a participant.

If you want to make a comment or ask a question before the floor is opened for questions, use the Chat Function to send a message. The Chat Function is activated by selecting that button at the bottom of the screen.  Your message can be directed to one person, several persons, or everyone.  It won't be possible to give technical help when the meeting is underway, please take advantage of the basic instructions and Zoom web site training/test materials...next paragraph.

Easiest way to participate, Option 3: If you find yourself not being able to navigate the various computer options or just want simplicity, you can use the "Telephone Option" to listen in. Use your phone to call the number above, enter the Meeting ID, and press # to finish the log-in.  For option 3, listening by a land-line telephone, you will be a passive participant.

If you have not used the Zoom software before, please read the detailed instructions below.

Zoom Beginner Guide:  The Zoom web site has a page that instructs new users.  Cut and paste into your browser:

https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360034967471-Getting-started-guide-for-new-users

Also, using any browser and searching for "Zoom Beginner Guide" will bring up YouTube tutorials that run from 12-30-some minutes.

It is possible to use the Zoom web site to test your computer's connection to a Zoom session.  For a first-timer, it's is a good idea to test your equipment/sound capability.  At the Zoom web site, there is an option to join a "Test" meeting:  Here is the link:

You can join a test Zoom meeting to familiarize yourself with the Zoom and test your microphone/speakers before joining a Zoom meeting. Visit zoom.us/test and click Join.  This one will be very helpful as it will allow you to test your audio and your microphone.

THE MAIN POINT IS, DON'T WAIT UNTIL 6:58pm to get ready to join the session.
