This page is dedicated to recognizing past and current volunteers who led the club to provide a lot of fun and many varied activities for members and guests since 1936. The page is named "The Recognition Slope" for those skiers who were challenged to take a ski lift to the highest part of the mountain and had the skills to ski down.
Club members can be skiers or non-skiers, ski ability is not required. We are much more than a "ski club", we offer activities year-round. These include skiing trips, ski instruction, tennis, golf, sailing, volleyball, hiking, biking, bowling, and overseas travel and cruise trips including Club Med, Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT), and Viking.
Our club 's success depends on its volunteers.

Both of these are meant to support the Board's consideration of awards, they do not change what is in the Policy Manual.

WHAT AWARDS? The list below is an abridgement of the Policy Manual, Chapter 3, Appendix 2, plus additional awards created by the Board of Directors. To read the Policy Manual, open the webpage "Club Forms and Documents" in the main "Home " menu item (you are in the Home area now), and navigate to the cited area. Each page contains a description, a writeup about "The Award "itself, qualifications and procedure...the BOD vote required to approve the award. FYI, the SCWDC Handbook, 1936-1986, contains an explanation about the how the Joan Hauswirth award was named.
SCWDC Joan Hauswirth Memorial Trophy: Awarded to a member who has contributed the most to the club during the current year (May - April)
Honorary Lifetime Membership: Awarded to "Members of longstanding who have consistently given of their time and efforts to the betterment of the SCWDC"
Toni Castagnolo (formerly, "Founders"): Awarded to members for service displaying loyalty, enthusiasm, and unselfish efforts to the club for an extended period. Requirement, 25 years membership minimum
Gold Award: For "Outstanding and Meritorious Service" and "Long and Faithful Service" over a period of years, with this limit, currently serving members of the Board and officers of the club are not eligible for this award
Silver Certificate: For "Significant Contributions" and "Long and Faithful Service", it can be given for one year of performance or several years
Ski Community Service: Awarded to a club member or in a rare instance, non-member for meritorious and lengthy service to the skiing community
Complimentary Membership: For "Signal Assistance to the Sport of Skiing or to the Club in Carrying Out Its Objectives" that includes a free year of membership
Certificate of Appreciation: Ad Hoc / No criteria, as determined by the BOD
Snowflake: Recognition for short-term volunteer service, not requiring a BOD vote. This is a practice of the President to announce friendly recognition for service, can be given anytime during a year. Not described in the Policy Manual, it was created in the 1970's and announced periodically in the club magazine. Awarding this recognition was re-started 2013.

Distinguished Service Award: Awarded to businesses and advertisers for a minimum of ten years continuous outstanding service and friendship with SCWDC
50-year Single Lifetime Membership: The Board voted in 2023 to award a free membership to members who have belonged to the club for 50 years
