Our motto: Don't Waste Wind! Sail Fast, Live Slow
The mission of the SCWDC Sailing Program is multi-fold:
We welcome all levels of sailing capabilities, from no skills at all (ballast), to sailing yacht owners (skippers and captains).
Sailing opportunities are available from May through October. Come out with us while we sail across the Chesapeake Bay & Potomac River. All levels of experience are welcome, including first-timers.
Our Sailing events include boats and skippers, plus a chance to learn or improve your sailing skills. We also offer sailing lessons and, occasionally, we'll organize sailing trips to popular destinations throughout the seven seas.
Potomac Sails: We sail 19-ft Flying Scots from the Belle Haven Marina for 2 hours on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, see the calendar and filter for Sailing. These are excellent opportunities to learn the fundamentals of sailing while having fun.
Chesapeake Bay Sails: Come out with our weekend "salts" on the Chesapeake Bay for full or half-day sails on 34-40 foot boats. We provide experienced skippers plus a chance to pick up sailing pointers and some hands-on experience! We also offer occasional overnight weekend sails.
Adventure Sailing: SCWDC's next sailing adventure is being planned. Contact the SCWDC Sailing Chair, David Toms, if you would like more information or would like to suggest a destination.
The last overseas sailing adventure was to the British Virgin Islands in April 2022. See the event writeup at Regatta to the beautiful British Virgin Islands (BVI). We chartered luxury 48' catamaran and mono-hull yachts and explored the many charms of these island paradises.
