A Saturday Ride!
This week join Karen for an out-and-back ride on the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail. This is a beautiful paved trail that runs from Annapolis through forests, farmlands, and suburban neighborhoods to Glen Burnie, MD.
When we get back to our cars, we'll load up our bikes and drive to the Severn Inn which is just a couple of miles away at 1993 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Annapolis MD. The Severn Inn provides panoramic views of Annapolis, the Naval Academy, and the Severn River. With any luck, we'll find seating outside which is first come, first served. The food is fabulous here!
Fun Fact: The B&A Trail is part of the developing East Coast Greenway, a 3,000-mile route between Florida and Maine. The B&A Trail follows the former route of the Annapolis and Baltimore Short Line, which began hauling passengers and freight in 1887. Ownership changed over the years, and the trains running to Annapolis—the state capital and home to the U.S. Naval Academy—were electrified in 1908. The company was reincorporated as the Baltimore & Annapolis Railroad in 1935, but business dwindled after World War II until service on the remaining segment ended in the 1970s.
