THE SKI & SPORTS CLUB OF WASHINGTON, DC

GREAT SPORTS FOR ALL SEASONS

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!

SCWDC is a non-profit organization staffed entirely by experienced volunteers. Now celebrating our 90th Anniversary, we are one of the most successful ski clubs in the country, with over 1200 members. And we're still growing!

We are much more than a ski club. Our members are active year around with social, cultural and sports activities of all kinds.  ALL of these events and activities require detailed organization and planning. strong leadership, and volunteer participation.  Are YOU willing to volunteer? If so, the Club will provide the training you need to start contributing your ideas, skills and talents.

Benefits of volunteering:

  • Building relationships:  volunteering is an excellent way to meet new people and strengthen relationships. It fosters social interaction and helps build a support network.
  • Community engagement:  our volunteers find a renewed sense of purpose and connection to the Club as an organization.
  • Learning new skills:  our event leaders learn how to budget, plan and lead activities and events. Committee members learn how to interact with the Club's website, edit and publish our weekly newsletter, maintain our membership database, and develop their own leadership skills.  Start small, then grow into your role as a volunteer!

Our Committee Chairs and volunteer openings:

  • Membership & Communications:  Acting Chair Gary Rubens is now the Club President and is actively working with Club Director Todd Leibbrand to become the new Chair.  Todd needs volunteers to help update the membership database, enhance membership communication and outreach, and streamline our membership dues structure.  SkiGram editor Carol Caruso needs volunteers to help edit and update the newsletter content, and increase readership.  We also need to strengthen our social media outreach via Facebook and InstaGram, and broaden our digital marketing efforts.
  • Social & Cultural:  newly appointed Chair Patty Ojeda is resurrecting this Committee after many years of neglect.  She needs enthusiastic volunteers with creative ideas about new types of events that will appeal to existing and members.
  • Training & Volunteer Services: newly appointed Chair Robin Swerdloff is responsible for updating our training manuals and tutorials, many of which are outdated.  She needs volunteers with strong editing and writing skills. If you want to volunteer, but you're not sure where to start, contact Robin.
  • Website support:  our website is powered by WildApricot, a COTS (commercial off the shelf) software platform used by many large membership-based nonprofit organizations. It requires NO programming for basic functions, but does require Administrators to manage the membership database, create and update events, and edit the web pages. WildApricot provides a Help & Support are that provides in-depth training tutorials, and periodic webinars.  We need volunteers who are comfortable with online software navigation, possess good editorial skills, and are quick learners.
