Attention intermediate skiers: according to Mountain Magazine, Snowmass is rated "the best intermediate ski area in the world.” The village of Snowmass is located directly at the base of the mountain. It’s a former ranching community that has been transformed into a year-round destination. Snowmass claims that 95% of its lodging has ski/ski-out access to the mountain. The village itself has plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping all within walking distance.
There are nine on-mountain restaurants: Sneaky’s Tavern, Sam’s Smokehouse, Up 4 Pizza, Two Creeks Cafe, Lynn Britt Cabin (lunches and snowcat dinner rides), Burlingame Cabin (snowcat dinner rides), Ullrhof, Gwyn’s High Alpine and Cafe Suzanne. For rentals and retail ski shopping, there are 4 stores in Snowmass Village.
Mountain:
Snowmass has the longest lift-accessed vertical in the country at 4,406 feet. Make your way up the Sheer Bliss or Big Burn lift to access the Cirque lift. This will take you to the summit of Snowmass at 12,510 feet. From here, enjoy 4,406 feet of leg-burning vertical to the base.
There are trails to suit all ages and abilities at Snowmass Mountain. You’ll find easy groomers, expert steeps, chutes, glades, cliffs, bumps, terrain parks and more. Combine the 3,132 skiable acres and long vertical, with Snowmass’ high-speed chairlifts, and you’re sure to have an easy time skiing and riding at Snowmass. There’s a total of 91 trails, 3 terrain parks, 1 superpipe and 1 beginner halfpipe.
For skiers looking for more challenging terrain, head for The Headwall, Hanging Valley, and The Cirque, which are now lift-accessible. For an added incentive, your lift ticket is also good for Ajax (Aspen Mountain), Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk. All three ski resorts are easily accessible via the complimentary Aspen area shuttle. Snowmass honors the IKON season pass.
Lodging:
We’ll be staying at the Top of the Village Condos, with ski-in/ski-out access directly on the slopes. We are in 2- & 3-bedroom apartments, each with a balcony overlooking the ski area, and each with a bathroom per room. Additionally, there is a year ‘round outdoor heated pool, two hot tubs and a large sauna.
