Day 1: Arrive in Cumberland, MD; lodging will be at The Inn on Decatur and the 9 Decatur Guest House. Check-in is 4 PM. Dinner will be provided @ 6pm (pizza, salad and beverages). After dinner, settle in for the night or explore the open-air pedestrian mall just two blocks away.
Day 2: (32 miles) Rise to a hot breakfast prepared by our host, Gail. Today we pedal to Paw Paw, WV on the C&O Canal Towpath where we will ride through the 3,118 foot tunnel (bring a flashlight... it's dark). Lunch will be provided on the trail. After the ride, we will be shuttled back to the Inn for a night of relaxation. This evening, how about a wine tasting at Charis Winery before having dinner at Canal Place. Stop by the Queen City Creamery for dessert!
Day 3: (32 miles) Another hearty breakfast starts our day. Then we’ll be shuttled to the town of Meyersdale, PA where we'll hop on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP). We’ll stop for lunch in Frostburg, and then enjoy a 15-mile downhill pedal back to Cumberland. We should arrive back in Cumberland by 2pm or 3pm to pack up and head home.
Shuttle arrangements can be made to accommodate those who want to ride more than 32 miles per day. A complimentary walking or driving tour of historic Cumberland is available upon request.
