Hike - Sky Meadows State Park

Meet at the Visitors Center parking area, 11 a.m., March 19

There is a $5 entry fee.
Carpools: meet at the Vienna Metro station south Kiss & Ride at 9:45 a.m.

Sky Meadows is close and convenient, about 45 minutes from Washington, and it features softly rolling hills, views to the Blue Ridge, and open meadows.
Let's do a 7-mile circuit hike touching on many of the trails that weave through the park, as well as the Appalachian Trail. You can find a full write-up and a map here: http://www.hikingupward.com/OVH/SkyMeadows/

There is some elevation gain, but this is a moderate hike suitable for all levels. We'll spend some time on the AT, but the majority of the hike is on park trails. We'll pause at panoramic view areas as well as ponds. At a moderate pace, this hike will take about 3.5-4 hours.
Please bring snacks and lunch--we'll stop and eat at approx. the 3 mile point. And, of course, bring plenty of water.

The park is less than two miles south of Paris, Va., via U.S. Route 50 to Route 17 South; or seven miles north of I-66, Exit 23 on Route 17 North. The park's main entrance is on State Route 710.
